Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars All you need for travel in Rajasthan   September 27, 2001
6 out of 6 found this review helpful

As with all the Lonely Planet books, this book is excellent. It is lighter than the main India Lonely planet, and still contains everything you need to know for travelling to India. It also contains handy chapters on Delhi and Agra (Taj Mahal) which most travellers in this area are likely to visit, although they are not technically in Rajasthan. Don't go without it!

NB: EVERY traveller in this area has the general 'India' LP book, the Rajasthan guide will give you more detailed info and therefore may contain sights etc otherwise unknown to the average traveller.

5 out of 5 stars An indispensible guide to India's most exotic State   October 24, 1998
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

The Lonely Planet's RAJASTHAN Travel Survival Kit, proved to be an indispensable tool during a recent three-week trip to India's most picturesque and exotic state. As with all Lonely Planet productions, it presents information in an impartial, accurate manner - preparing the traveller for what is a fascinating part of the world. It is written by authors who hold the place in high esteem for, their enthusiasm makes the book come alive. It should be compulsory reading for the uninitiated, as well as the seasoned visitor to these parts.

The book introduces the history of the state (also a section on Agra - Taj Mahal), provides invaluable travel facts and advice, then it leads to in-depth chapters on each of the regions with suggested itineraries and information on culture and points of interest. With its rich history, Rajasthan is endowed with a wealth of forts, palaces and archeological sites. The book provides detailed background, which is informative and sets each site in its historical context.

Whether backpacking on a budget or travelling in style, the assessments of accommodation and eateries are, on the whole, precise. Warnings and travel tips are very helpful and should be heeded. This book goes a long way towards smoothing out some of the inevitable problems to be encountered when visiting this part of the world. I dread to think how I would have survived without it.

A well considered publication, which will ensure that the reader gains the most from this truly remarkable region.
