5 out of 5 stars mexico city finally revealed   July 17, 2000

I purchased a copy of this guide before my second trip to Mexico City. Compared to a couple of other guides I had along on my first trip, this one provided a wider panorama on the city -- I felt like I was discovering el DF for the first time. The book presents the city as it really is -- the photos (excellent black & white "slices of life") as well as the text present a gritty, journalistic style that suits the world's largest city perfectly.

The guide was particularly strong in elucidating Mexico City cuisine, uncovering the old and established as well as the new and trendy, along with plenty of classic hole-in-the-wall spots where locals eat. Moon covered entertainment venues much better than the competition as well.

The book includes brilliant background history section, and I liked the way additional city history was woven throughout the book in digestible portions.

A remarkable first edition. Though I probably haven't read every single guide to Mexico City ever published, I doubt the Mexican capital has ever been covered this well. Kudos to the authors.
