5 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT!!!   August 26, 2008

This is honestly one of the funniest books I have ever read. I was able to empathise with so much of it, even my old prep school got a mention! It will ring true to any West London twentysomething. Iain Hollingshead writes very well indeed. Various parts had me literally crying with laughter! This book is nothing short of brilliant and I very much look forward to more offerings from this talented author.

5 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud   May 9, 2008

We took this book on holiday. Around the pool, I embarrassed my husband by laughing out loud at Hollingshead's set piece scenes. But when my husband started reading it, he did the same. Eventually, strangers around the pool began to approach us and ask us what we were reading - so much so that they borrowed our copy and enjoyed the novel as much as we did. It's insightful, cleverly structured and, above all, funny!

5 out of 5 stars 5 star comedy   March 10, 2008

This book is fantastic. It's fast-paced, witty and irreverant but also has some keen insights into modern life, modern people and modern relationships. This book made me laugh, cry and think. The pacing is especially good as Iain Hollingshead knows truly understands the balance between comedy, story and emotion. The style manages to avoid stupidity and sentimentality equally while evoking a real emotional response. The style reminded me of Danny Wallace's "Yes Man". Both novels combine cutting humour with a hopeful message and both are equally worth reading.

5 out of 5 stars It was that good   November 13, 2007

Bought this along with a load of other books for a beach holiday, and had finished it before the plane touched down. As a 25 year old city worker who has flirted with the idea of teaching i identified with virtually every bit of the book, including "Mad Barrys" which is clearly meant to be the club Crazy Larry's in Fulham.

All in all a tremendous read, would recommend it to anyone
