2 out of 5 stars Its a quick skim across the route   August 7, 2006

Handy dashboard quick guide which we used a lot, but if you are travelling the road and want to get to some of the out of the way older alignments its got a habit of getting you lost. The maps are quite handy, but some of the directions are misleading which can be fun sometimes, other times not so. If you intend to follow it and it alone beware, have a back up guide and compare the two before you start out. Take a good big scale recent Rand Macnally road atlas as well, it's not as up to date as it should be in some parts.

I borrowed some other guides from friends who had travelled the road but bought this one anyway as I am a fan of Lonely Planet Guides. But the end of Day 1 all the others had hit the back seat and this became our best friend. As well as maps you can actually read there is the usual host of LP information to keep you entertained. There were one to two inaccuracies but the world turns and things change, but no major problems. We had a fantastic trip on Route 66 thanks to this guide and would highly recommend it. I would also suggest LP's guide to Route 1 in California too if you have time, it's another great route with amazing scenery. Oh and don't forget to do it all in a convertible Mustang!! You won't regret it!
