Simply the best July 16, 2008 This is a great guide whether you are island-hopping or simply someone who likes to go to Greece for your holidays. Also the format is very user-friendly and easier to navigate around than its main rival - The Rough Guide. The only Greek Islands guide book you'll ever need.
Excellent guide to the Greek islands! April 23, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Like its companion book (Lonely Planet Greece), this is an excellent guide (but just to the islands)! It is concise, reads very easily, and gives good common-sense recommendations on what to see and where to stay. It is as up-to-date as you can reasonably expect with changing prices and euro fluctuations. A very, very practical guide from the budget tourist to middle class. Excellent pictures, very good maps, a fine job! It reminds me, in a way, of the Michelin guides to Europe. Having said that, Lonely Planet Greece gives you basically the same information on the islands, plus mainland Greece, for just a few euros more. So unless you are flying into Athens and going only to the islands, you are probably better off with the parent book.
New addition is absolutely brilliant. Informative & correct. April 9, 2002 22 out of 24 found this review helpful
Not much to say apart from the recent edition is contains all the possible information you would need to know apart from ferry times. It gives the frequency and cost though. Would be especially usefull to first time island goers. Maybe not reccomended if visiting one island, but usefull if deciding which islands to visit etc. if visiting more.
Uniformative about what really matters - Island ambience July 28, 2001 7 out of 18 found this review helpful
If you're trying to find which Island is best for you - look elsewhere. This book gives the briefest descriptions of the ambience on each island and each one is given a favourable slant... Otherwise it contains some useful factual information.
Out of time and out of date... December 31, 2000 12 out of 28 found this review helpful
As guides go this one is interesting, but one is left wondering as to which readership this book is addressing. The faint smell of "We discovered these islands first." pervades the pages and the patronising slant leaves one perplexed as well as confused. It's a big guide - and there you have it: big, wordy and, frankly, boring. It will never fill the shoes other guides wear, and desides, hobnail boots are hardly appropriate in this instance!
