Detailed Guide to England March 24, 2008 There is so much to see in our own country, and this guide really is excellent. Compared to it's rival-Lonely Planet's guide to England, it has got more detailed coverage, clearer maps, and design wise is better on the eye. I don't think there is currantly an up to date Footprint guide to England. On a recent trip to Fotheringhay in Northamptonshire, this guide was very acurate, and had a 'spot on' description of the church as seen for the first time. And the church is certainly the main feature of this village. Lonely Planet didn't mention the church at all! Another thing I like about this guide is that picture wise, it doesn't give too much away. I like the idea of arriving at a place and seeing the landmark 'for the first time'. This Rough Guide obviously does have a few photos, but keeps it to a minimum, so when you do visit a place, the initial impact is better. So if you are looking for a guide to this fantastic country that is very detailed, up to date (a new version is out in May 2008), and authorative, plus has a really good design and is very affordable, there really is no other choice. Every home should have one!
Excellent for planning holidays August 9, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a book which when I'd bought it I thought - why didn't I get a copy earlier ? If you holiday regularly in England, it's worth buying, to a) decide where to go and b) plan what to do before you go. Plenty detail, well written and comprehensive.
