essential reading May 28, 2008
Having twice attempted similar projects in the same area of France I opened the book with some trepidation, - and was totally captivated. Written with great humour and elegance and an engaging warmth and insight for the local people I was immediately held. Whether or not you are a lover of France and the French, a master craftsman or a happy botcher do read this.
Couldn't put it down! January 20, 2008
Buying a house in France is a dream many people have. It can all seem such a romantic idea. However, in reality, it can be quite a different story! The author honestly writes about his experiences whilst embarking on 'doing up' a house in the Charante area of France. It is quite an eye-opener! Having a good sense of humour must have been essential to cope with the ups and downs he faced. I found that not only could I not put the book down, but I was often laughing out loud at the hilarious incidents that befell the determined Do-It-Yourselfer. It is a really fun read with a gorgeous cover and pleasant sketches. Well worth buying.
