Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Very flimsy lightweight treatment of the subject   September 2, 2003

Dont expect anything other than a very basic overview of spread betting here. Almost every other book available goes into more detail on the opportunities available. Maybe this is about the most information the spread companies would like us to know.
The first reviewer surely wrote the book !

4 out of 5 stars Good introduction to spread betting   September 1, 2003

An excellent introductory guide to the world of spread betting especially for those punters interested in making the switch from fixed odds. The author concentrates mainly on football and horse racing with detailed descriptions of most of the main markets traded in these sports (other sports such as rugby and cricket are covered but in much less detail). Some of the examples are a little long winded and may have limited practical use in the real world however this book is well worth buying if you are interested in getting involved in spread betting (especially football or horse racing).

5 out of 5 stars Helpful to novices and experts   June 6, 2000

Having seen the merits of spread betting, for a while I remained sceptical, nervous of the possible risks and technical jargon. Andrew Burke addresses this in his book, explaining the vagaries of the medium to newcomers while also proffering useful advice to the hardened spread punter.

The author ensures all players are warned of the risks inherent in this form of betting and offers some sensible advice concerning various damage limitation exercises you can perform in order to minimize such risks. There is also plenty of space devoted to discussing the mechanics of the betting and how to spot potentially profitable trades.

There are no get-rich-quick schemes on display here, merely sound common sense and solid reasoning, designed to put spread punters into a position where they can get maximum enjoyment out of their pastime. Both as a novice and now as an experienced player of the spreads, I considered this book essential reading.

1 out of 5 stars Not very impressed   March 13, 2000

There are few good books on the subject of spread betting and I'm afraid this book does little to change that fact. It's author knows his subject but fails to bring the feel of spread betting across to the reader, and as a result this book lacks inspiration.
