Having said that, it's a dainty morsel - pocket-sized, and though the information is well-written, it can also be a little on the brief side. It is frustrating that only maps of Bilbao city itself are included - a bit of a pain when you venture the short distance to the seaside suburbs and find yourself going round in circles!

When it comes to bar and restaurant entries, the pricing levels (as with so many guides) seem to be pitched very much towards budget travellers, so if you're looking for anything stylish bear that in mind.

Much of the Bilbao information is reproduced in the same author's Northern Spain guide, so if you're planning to return to the region, that may prove a better buy.

Despite those reservations, the book proved a useful purchase, and I would definitely buy Footprint rather than another guide next time round.

This book was very useful on a recent trip to Bilbao and the surrounding areas. All the information was up to date and the accurate. The tips and reviews were also very good - much better than those in our other book. It was very good to have a detailed book on the area, rather than just a small section in a larger book as well; there was much more than just hotels and restaurants and so I found some excellent things that otherwise would have eluded me. A must for a good trip. Highly recommended.
