5 out of 5 stars Very Imaginative   April 18, 2006

Having read a few supposed 'fantasy' classics lately and not enjoyed any of them, I found 'Dante's Last March' to be a breath of fresh air. A compelling story that flows until the end. The dialogue and story is expertly crafted to a late teen audience but is really a great read at any age.

I loved this book. I found it completely different and really enjoyable. I would have liked more back story and just loved Dante and his girlfriend. Can't wait for this author's next book. Just loved it.

2 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me   March 14, 2006

I'm afraid that I have to differ from the other reviews of this book. Although it may be imaginative (although it seemd a little derivative) it just didn't flow and I thought the characterisation weak. It seemed more of a book for youngsters and I'll keep it for my son but I tried and tried and couldn't get through it - maybe it would have got better if I'd persevered. But lines such as "She had the company of the the rather unpleasant looking fortune-teller to keep her company" just made me shudder, and there are too many other examples like this.

4 out of 5 stars More back story please !!   July 5, 2005

I really liked this book. The once good but now evil guardian Du Jarre was my favourite character and my only gripe is that the backstory about how he learnt about cloning and killed off the other "guardians of the faith" was all too brief. There's surely room for an entire novel covering this part of the story rather than just the one or two chapters devoted to it here. There are some pretty decent twists and turns and although a little corny on occasions, it still kept me interested. If there are any follow up's to Dante's Last March, I certainly hope they have more about Du Jarre. The best of the good guys was Aldren who had that little bit of the dark side in him. All the other good guys were a little too clean cut for my liking, but yes, I did like the ending. Bring on the next chapter....
