1 out of 5 stars Crete Road Map   July 7, 2005

This is the worst wrongly described product i have ever purchased from Amazon. It is sold as a "Road Map" when it arrived it is a hiking map with just three or four areas of Crete shown in detail but no main roads the very reason i purchased it as i shall be driving in Crete.

1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing   June 5, 2002

I found this a very confusing pack, as a map of the whole of Crete is not included (except an outline map approximately 2 inches in size), which made locating the detailed walking maps included difficult to pinpoint. The fact that it is also in several different languages does not help. I would only recommend it to very experienced map readers.

4 out of 5 stars This map and guide fill a useful gap in the market.   January 22, 2000

Detailed maps of Crete aimed at the walker are difficult to come by and this map and guide fill a useful gap in the market. The map does not cover all of Crete, which is a pity, but covers five areas of Crete that will be of interest to anybody who wants to take to the hills and explore 'hidden' Crete. Perhaps in the future the publisher might think about including all of the E4 trail which crosses the island. Yes, the popular Samarian gorge is included but the surrounding area, including an ascent of Mt. Gingilos, is also covered, giving a chance to escape from the crowds. The scale of the map is 1:50 000 and as well as contour lines there is also good use of shading to show the lie of the land. All historical monuments, churches etc are clearly displayed. Accompanying the map is a guide to 20 walks, which is an unexpected bonus. Also included is a plastic case for the map and guide. The descriptions are not written in detail, but used in conjunction with the map, should pose the walker few problems. I am now looking forward to heading out to Crete to put the map to its test.
