Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars a rare honest look at Bulgaria past and present   September 11, 2008

I enjoyed the personal account of the authour - it really rings true and even the less polished passages feel authentic and heartfelt.
Bulgarians need to hear the truth about themselves and it sounds even more convincing when it comes from one of their own, since at least in spirit the author still is very much Bulgarian.
Literate (Bulgarian) expats should pick up the book and expect to relate to the protagonist's experiences in their own personal, almost intimate way. There are few books that so honestly lift the veil on this uniquely spiritual and and the same time uncomplicated, down to earth place called Bulgaria. The narrative may even endear the place to non-Bulgarian readers. I would recommend that non-Bulgarians with interst in the locale give it a taste too. Kudos to the publisher too for taking the risk.

1 out of 5 stars it is ungrateful   August 21, 2008

The kapka's book is just a "PR" event. Like a show. I am Bulgarian and shamed of what she has done to my (and her, as far as she states so) native country.

For instance - what if Britain have someone British traveller, writing in his/her second language, spit against Britain and try to get acknowledgement. Fakeness is fakeness, wrong is wrong.
