Great read, great pictures October 28, 2003

Usually photography books just have a lot of pretty pictures to look at; this has many splendid photographs, but also an excellent text, very readable and informative. It is a solid history of the northwest frontier province of British India and the Second Afghan War - but gorgeously illustrated! Probably the best 19th century photography book about India I have yet found.
