5 out of 5 stars BEST L.A. GUIDE AND I BOUGHT SEVERAL   February 6, 2005

I was researching LA in terms of atmosphere because I am writing a book set there, rather than looking for cheap tips and tricks for tourists. The Virgin guide is trivial shopping; the Time Out/Penguin guide is well written but basically for trivials; this one is really excellent and makes you feel you know the place before you even get there - great sweeps of atmophere plus all the telling detail. 100%

This is a very good book to read if your going to L.A.-It contains many maps of Districts and describes them, information on where to go (including prices and days they're open)and where not to go.It also lists phone numbers and locations of good accomodation, resturants, bars, clubs, shops and many many more.A very good buy indeed!

LA can be a daunting city to visit, but this book makes travelling around so much easier. If you are not planning to hire a car when you are there, this book really is essential. It has good maps of Downtown and Hollywood, and very useful maps of the main bus routes. The commentaries are really helpful and quite entertaining, although they can sometimes sound slightly pretentious. Nonetheless, I used the book every single day and would have been lost without it. A must have.

P.S. Make sure you take in a Dodgers game when you're there - you won't be disappointed!
