5 out of 5 stars Ideal for the first time visitor   October 29, 2007

Corsica is a much larger and more varied island than the first time visitor might expect so a good guidebook is essential, (Corsica is roughly the same size as Wales). The Cadogan Guide has an excellent balance of reference and background information, with enough detailed text to allow informed decisions on where to visit. However, some simple local maps to accompany the guide's recommendations would have been helpful as even a Michelin roadmap struggles to make sense of Corsica's rural roads, leading to a few wrong turns on the way when hunting for that remote beach or tower, (not a real problem if you've adopted a suitably chilled out holiday mood). I'd recommend Corsica to those who love the rural and less developed regions of mainland France and the Cadogan Guide will definitely help you plan and make the most of your first and subsequent visits.

5 out of 5 stars Incisive, humours, and well researched!   March 18, 2003

I enjoyed this travel guidebook and found it very informative and helpful. I now live in Corsica, and the book often surprised me, and local friends, for its wealth of information that is presented in an accessible and clear manner without the dullness that characterises many travel guides. It gives excellent descriptions and recount local stories and traditions associated with places of interest throughout the island. It managed to do wet my appetite to visit many wonderful parts of the island, and often made me laugh. It not exceeds all other travel guides to Corsica, that I have read, the wealth and depth of the information provided, but is able to shed light on places of interest in a incisive and humours manner; from beaches, to perched villages, from restaurants to hotels, from sailing to short and pleasant hikes, etc... You will not regret buying it, I still keep coming back to it for reference!
