4 out of 5 stars Fantastic for a short trip!   November 8, 2008
Great little guide for a short visit. Fits easily in the pocket compared to most of the other bigger guides I've used in the past. Since purchasing this Berlin guide, I've gone on to buy several of the other books in the series, although this appears to be the best. The pull out map is very useful. All the bars and restaurants that we visited on recommendation of this book were fantastic (you have to get one of the Doners that is recommended - BEST EVER!) and it gives nice descriptions of all the key sites in Berlin. Recommended! (NB: I think some of the reviews for the larger Lonely Planet Guide have got mixed in with reviews for the Encounter (and lowered the score for this book) - the 2 books are aimed at entirely different experiences...)

1 out of 5 stars The worst guide book I've ever used!   July 19, 2005

This book is terrible! Yes it tells you very briefly about places, but not really where they are. I looked up a place then turned to the map reference given, to find I was then given another page number to check, which was useless. I looked at the book several times before traveling and never even found any details how to get from the airport to the city... A must for a starting point I feel. I have used the Rough Guides in the past, with no problems, I will be sticking to them in future! If your going to Berlin use the internet instead of this book..it all you need.

Took this guide with me when I was in Berlin for a week. Had no problems. Very up to date. Nice explenations about all the sites. Could do with a bit more colour pictures. In my opinion alot better than Timeout.

All the information provided in it was spot on.

A tip for anyone visiting Berlin. Remember to validate your train ticket where you purchase it!

2 out of 5 stars Lonely Planet Guide Berlin   January 17, 2005

This stackes up very poorly against the "Rough Guide's". The main problem is the format, rather than list each area & then list all the attractions & facilities in that area it lists all the attractions in categorys: bars, cafes, shows etc are listed alphabetically with their address. The problem being if you are not a native you then have to figure out which area each address is in. I Have used "Rough Guides" many times all over the world & find them much easier to follow & much more use in locating what I needed.

4 out of 5 stars Better than the Rough Guides   December 29, 2001

Clear and easy to read, good map of the public transport system. Buy it if you going for a long weekend.
