I enjoyed reading this account of a solo journey by a woman not in the first flush of youth. I followed her trip with the map provided and learned about a country and people that I had no conception of before. Having heard about the plight of the Kurds in Turkey after the Iraqi war I was fascinated to read more about the peoples of this region from this lady seeing them at ground level, having an educated knowledge of the history, making a point of understanding them and getting to know them wherever possible. Obviously Turkey is a country of two parts, and this book covers the parts rarely seen by western tourists. A brave woman who won my heart and made me want to recommend her book to all my friends and particularly to my son who had so enjoyed western Turkey.
