A Handy Guide March 16, 2003 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
As a West Coast Canadian and frequent visitor to York, I find The York Book extremely useful and interesting. The cross referencing format allows the reader to research particular interests easily. I am very impressed with the amount of information included in this handy-to-carry reference book.

I have visited York on many occasions but on my last visit I purchased the York Book and couldn't believe how much I simply didn't know. This little book is packed with so many amazing and funny facts. The best thing is that it is small. It will easily fit into any handbag (or coat pocket for the gents). For any one who wants to know more about Britain's most beautiful city, or for those who think they already know it all, the York Book is a MUST!
The only book you'll need to make the most of York December 14, 2002 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The unique format of this book makes it really easy to use - everything is listed from A to Z, from Aaron of York to the Zouche Chapel in the Minster. There's nothing else quite like it as it includes famous people, ghost stories, architects, artists and historical events as well as the most important places to visit. It's well written and informative and there are links in each entry which lead on to other areas of interest. I've read a great many books about York and although some are excellent, none of them cover as much as this one. Now everyone uses the internet and there is a great desire for bite-size chunks of information, this book is ideal.
The only guide to York you'll ever need November 7, 2002 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
The York Book is one of those rare guide books that is both useful and a joy to read. It is witty and entertaining - the entries are concise, but informative and erudite. It's just the right size to carry around with you on a walk (unlike The London Encyclopedia, which weighs a ton) or to browse through at home. Looks good, too. All in all a really worthwhile buy.
