life on the ocean wave August 18, 2006
well i read this book about 13 yrs ago. i was contemplating getting into 'boats', but living in the midlands, i wasn't exposed to them enough. reading this book though, i dreamed of Shanes independence and courage to not let finances and experience get in the way. some of the places he discovers, sometimes only a little way from the "yachties" and their flash plastic fantastics, make you want to sail into the sunset. Shanes girlfriend would fly out to meet him and spend time with him too, even when they had to repair shrimpy, from underwater sometimes, it all somehow doesn't seem so bad. well some years later, still thinking of adventure, i built a camper and off i went for a year.. not quite the same, but inspired all the same...
