OK - but inadequate if you want to be thorough March 19, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
As it is with the other CGP books, this book is good if you only want to confirm your knowledge, because it puts things concisely. Unfortunately, this book goes into nowhere near enough detail, and some facts are just plain wrong. I would be wary of using this book as a primary learning or even revision source.
Essential reading for AQA A biology December 1, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Anyone doing A level biology will know that half the battle is knowing what to learn, if you get bogged down in detail you quite simply will never learn everything you need for the exam. I had a very poor teacher and resided to teaching myself using this book. It doesn't have loads of explanation or detail, but it does have the facts. Laid bare. If you want detail and lots of explanation to help understanding then use your text book. If you want an exceptionally well matched book, that gives the facts and is clear and easy to understand you wont go far wrong!
Another great book from the CGP crew!! July 5, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having got to AS level, and having done my course - and then just necessitating a revision guide to review everything - i found myself dreading, almost, getting everything crammed in. But this book couldn't be better for us customarily- bored- with- archetypal- revision- material students. It really does encompass an unreservedly diverged approach to AS level study; and the colourful and bright images (which, compared to another of my dull science revision books, become a huge relief), really help, with the usual sharp- witted one- liners - to aid people like myself in conceiving AS level study positively.
They're quite palpably, stringently checking and re- certifying the edexcel syllabus too; and so luckily you won't find yourself having to learn a whole load of superfluous material, none of which emerges on the actual exam, and of course none of which can be useful in 'normal- day' life. It's just succint and evidently in bullet point format, a winner all round.
I haven't given it 5* ratings... it's just a revision guide at the end of the day..
Great for Biology Revision March 22, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a fantastic revision tool for AS level Biology. Any book by CGP is great as well. However, this book is considerably thinner then the main CGP book for biolgy due to the fact it is aimed at those studying with the OCR exam board. This means that a lot of the unnessesary stuff for this exam is taken out, so any one taking another exam board would not find it useful. This book is just generally great, and easy to use. Highly recomended.
Reccommended. May 30, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Covers all the bases for the specification, but lacks a little in some of the more complicated stuff like Oxygen association. Having said this, it is designed as a summary book, so class notes should be used as well. Would be nice if there were some photos of cell structures and the like.
