24 nights? August 10, 2008 most of the footage seen here is from erics "18 nights" stint at the Royal Albert hall the year before-so why is there not more footage from the actual "24 nights" (9 piece band)-these were obviously better performances, compared to the "18 nights" (4 piece band).
quality shines through October 9, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a fine recording of Claptons fabled Albert Hall concerts from the early 90's.
Starting with the 4 piece band you get: Running on Faith White Room Sunshine of your Love
Then the Blues Band: Watch Yourself Have you ever loved a woman Worried life blues
Then the nine piece band: Pretending Bad love Old Love Wonderful Tonight
The Orchestra and band: Bell Bottom Blues Hard Times Edge of Darkness
This all done very professionally and there are some great moments interspersed with just a few I could have done without. The live version of the 'Edge of Darkness' theme is tremendously powerful, and the Blues set is my favourite overall. This has Jonnie Johnson on Piano and Robert Cray and Buddy Guy on Guitar.
Well worth buying overall.
Music...........not technology March 20, 2004 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
This album is about musical ability.....not technical competence. As such it is classic, albeit I do not understand previous comments, either, about the technician side of it because my copy is excellent. If you want to review musical technology.......then do so.......here is not the place for it. Inline with most of ECs' live performances this is simply great. I attended 2 of the live performances recorded on this album at the Albert Hall and was simply astonished.A great live album by any standards.
Just a vanilla dvd!! January 28, 2004 5 out of 27 found this review helpful
Yep! That's right! This is just a plain, ole' vanilla dvd. Nothing special here. Certainly, not anything to write home about. Yes, I must say this vanilla dvd has definitely fallen on rocky roads. (Ahem, so to speak) The thing that ticks me off most is the lack of audio mixes. It only has a linear PCM track. (In other words, 2 channel stereo) Why couldn't they have taken the time to remix the audio into DTS or at the very least, Dolby Digital 5.1? Imagine listening to the orchestral performances in full surround!! Oh, yes, lest we forget, that brings me to another sore point... When is Warner/Reprise going to wise up and release the full concert from one of the orchestra nights on dvd? The fans have been waiting on this for 13 years, at the time of this writing. So, what's the hold-up guys? I sometimes think these corporate big-wigs have absolutely no clue what music fans are looking for. So, go ahead gentlemen... Keep all the best material locked up in your secret, underground, climate-controlled vaults, safe and secure, from the rest of the world, until time itself comes to an end!! That way, your diabolical masterplan will reach it's fruition; that no human ear will ever be able to enjoy it. Yes, feel free to recline in your big, leather office chair and sarcastically laugh at the meaningless peons who continue to importune you year after year to release this stuff. (I guess our money is meaningless too, eh?!) By, the way, while I'm in a "ranting and raving mood", please note that the same goes for not releasing Clapton's "Nothin' But The Blues" on dvd, too!
Eric Clapton at his electric best! August 14, 2001 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
This DVD shows EC performing some of his most electric performances from his 24 Nights in the Albert Hall. The performance by EC is almost effortless, especially the footage from the blues nights which stands out from the others. Also check out the great versions of White Room & Wonderful Tonight. The only thing which dissapoints is the standard of the sound quality which is not absolutely crystal clear. This is a shame as to do it justice it should be played through a stereo. A loud one!. An essential purchase for any EC fan!
