A complete rip off as this is simply an old title re-issued. Avoid at all costs.

1 out of 5 stars yet another re-release   May 18, 2004

Having first seen that this dvd was the dvd that British Airways didn't want you to see, that it would uncover the mystery surrounding the Paris crash of July 2000, I eagerly ordered it for myself. Having just finished viewing what can I say except RIP OFF !!!
This is yet another re-package of the OLD Concorde story which has been re-released twice already and has been available for some time. A warning to fellow Concorde enthusiasts who are as passionate about Concorde, STAY WELL CLEAR of this release, it contains nothing new, has no mention of the crash in Paris, in fact the footage only goes as far as November 1977 ! the first flight into New York by British Airways and Air France.
Some how I can't see that British Airways will lose any sleep over this release as it contains nothing post 1977.
Avoid.

1 out of 5 stars Just half the story   May 18, 2004

This was originally sold as, "The story British Airways tried to supress. This documentary, through expert witnesses, footage and records, reveals for the first time, the controversy, the flaws and facts which BA supressed and which led up to the disaster in Paris and subsequent demise of this unique aircraft." - In fact, these were the words actually printed on the back cover.

I was disappointed to find that there was absolutely nothing in the DVD about this.

The DVD has 11 chapters, starting with the early developmental supersonic flights, delta wing and heat testing. Subsequent progression through the British-French collaboration and flight testing of the prototypes by Trubshaw & Turcat. Chapter 5 is about Concorde's rivals - B-2707 & Tu-144 and footage of the Tu-144 crash @ Paris.

Chapters 8 & 9 are entitled Troubled times and Concorde retires respectively are about trying to get the plane into JFK and retirement of the prototypes.

Chapter 10 is entitled Debate is about the trial period @ JFK
So with only 11 chapters, we are already close to the end of this DVD.

Chapter 11 is about the first passengers - good footage of the cabin interior of the first commercial flights and the Air France/BA landing at JFK.

... and there the DVD ended {circa 1977}

Seems to me that there should be another DVD in the offing to finish off the story.

It is probably still worth having in any Concorde enthusiast's DVD collection because of the historical footage.

Also, disapponted to find that the cover picture was not of the four Concordes flying in formation, but of one on the ground - I actually thought the wrong DVD had been sent. However, the DVD7089X reference code was correct.

Superb film history of this great aircraft.

Design and development are detailed with rare and exclusive archive film, and interviews with test pilots.
The programme puts you in the pilot's seat so that you can experience the ultimate sensation - flying Concorde itself - and also featured is a rare film from the 1960s designed to show the public what supersonic speed was really like.
Travel in a car along the South Coast at an amazing 1100mph and see for yourself!

Well worth the money, especially if you wnat to understand the history behind Concorde

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable viewing for Concorde fans   September 9, 2001

I have enjoyed watching this video again and again and think anyone interested in Concorde would love to have this in their collection. It starts with the design concept and goes through the construction of the prototypes and test flights to eventual passenger service. The footage is very good, and so is the commentary from Concorde pilots, which also includes the training involved in becoming a pilot on Concorde. It contains some take-offs, landings and cruise footage, but not a lot. A good overview, rather than going into a lot of detail.
