5 out of 5 stars From the back cover...   January 6, 2007
Starring John Nettles. The Midsomer Murders series is based on the award winning Inspector Barnaby novels, by Caroline Graham, described by the Sunday Times as "The best detective writer since Agatha Christie."

Badger's Drift - a tranquil English village, home to Miss Emily Simpson, a well-liked spinster. But a gentle stroll in the nearby woods brings an abrupt end to her peaceful existence. To the village doctor, Miss Simpson's death looks natural enough, but her old friend Lucy Bellringer is unconvinced and eventually draws the unwilling Chief Inspector Barnaby into the case. His investigations reveal an unexpected side to Badger's Drift - old rivalries, old loves and new scandals, and then a second horrifying killing shocks Barnaby into running the murderer to ground...

What can I say except that every episode of Midsomer Murders is fantastic! If we had the money we'd buy the lot!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Midsomer Murders!   December 12, 2003

If you are a fan of the Midsomer Murders series you have got to see this episode, primarily because it is the pilot episode but also because it is one of the best! The acting is brilliant as ever, there are some great, eccentric characters in this one (the Rainbirds in particular are excellent, very creepy!) and the storyline is very clever. This is Midsomer Murders at it's best and I can't believe it has been more than 6 years since I first watched this and became hooked on the series! Great entertainment, I'm sure you will enjoy this video!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Pilot Episode   August 2, 2002

This first episode sets the scene for excellent drama yet to come. The Killings at Badgers Drift is top class and the story sort of continues with two follow-up stories (Death's Shadow and Dead Man's Eleven), all of which, in my opinion, represent the best of the entire series (Death's Shadow is my ultimate favourite). Some of the later stories have lost some of the original atmosphere (partly because they don't feature so much of the creepy theme music), but these early episodes are well worth owning. There is so much good stuff in The Killings at Badgers Drift that makes it a must have video. I just hope this episode is released on DVD.
