Amazon.co.uk Review Steven Seagal gets killed during the first 20 minutes of this enjoyable thriller, so Executive Decision scores points for ingenuity because it immediately improves when you realise that Seagal's role is just a heroic cameo. That leaves Kurt Russell to star as an American intelligence expert who (due to Seagal's untimely demise) finds himself leading a strike force against Islamic terrorists who have seized in-flight control of a 747 jetliner with 400 passengers. It's not all that different from Air Force One, but the formula story perks right along with considerable suspense as Russell's cohorts (Oliver Platt, Joe Morton) try to defuse a chemical bomb that could wipe out (you guessed it) the entire Eastern seaboard. John Leguizamo plays one of the US commandos attempting to stop the violent hijackers and Halle Berry co-stars as a flight attendant who risks her life to assist Russell's rescue team. As action movies go, Executive Decision marked an impressive directorial debut for veteran film editor Stuart Baird. --Jeff Shannon

Not a good decision October 6, 2008 This film folks is very slow to start off with Seagal has a short part in the start and about 20 mins into it you start to think what is going on and then it turns boring with plots and plans not making much progress hardly any action till the end, the only thing that amused me was the asian guys haircut which had us all in tears very funny for us that was, This film is a slow mover which is made to be a suspense thriller which did not work well this film could of had a lot of potential having actors like kurt/Steven but failed to deliver in certain aspects it is ok to pass time but not worth the purchase in my opinion
Fairly slow hostage movie July 28, 2008 Not very much to shout about here - there's a small amount of heroics and a few gunfights, the tension isn't all that much but it has its moments.
it does not stand the test of time February 26, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a pre 9/11 plot of a grounp of terrorist trying to kill a lot of Americans with nerve agent. They highjacka plane a plan to detonate the bomb in USA airspace to help the spead of the gas.
So the USA send " the best " to neutralize the threat. What follows is a series of incredible naivity by the terrorists and luck by the commandos with multiple near misses and last minute heart stopping solution.
Is difficult to watch this withour saying " as if ! " , the remora aircraft is surely a joke and they don't even have masks ( how can you fit 10 people with guns in a fighter yet ?) ( how can you fit so many explosives and guns in a comercial aircraft ? )
Berry ,Suche and Rusell deliver ok performances and luckley seagal gets killed earlier on the film.
This movie does not stand the test of time very well and has a wiff of 1990's action hero to it that makes it look very dated.
Action at 30.000 ft September 29, 2007 Kurt Russell's character is called upon to help a group of US special forces thwart a hijacking. The plane is carrying biological weapons, due to be crashed onto an unsuspecting US city. Kurt and the team, led by Steven Segal, make a covert docking from a stealth plane (slightly unbelievable) and covertly prepare to take out the terrorists and save the day. Thankfully, Segal is killed early in the film to save us another Oscar nomination (not) and Kurt saves the day.
Good film generally with a few holes here and there.
Even Seagal acts well in this film July 1, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A fun, tense, and exciting action/thriller with an excellent ensemble cast, headed by Kurt Russell and including Halle Berry, David Suchet, and John Leguizamo.
Even Steven Seagal does a creditable job, mainly because this isn't a "Steven Seagal movie." His supporting role permits him to do what he does best (which isn't acting). He doesn't have to pretend to be witty, there's none of that awful smirking he does in a vain attempt to show emotion, the camera doesn't caress his body, and there's not one speech about how gol-dang *good* his character is. He even manages to enunciate his lines clearly!
The plot might have seemed a little far-fetched when the movie was released, but not anymore.
I'm not even much of an action film fan, but this one is really a lot of fun.
