The burning intensity of Russell Crowe (L.A. Confidential) first lit up screens as a hate-filled, Mein Kampf-spouting skinhead in this brutal Australian drama. Crowe glowers from under his deep-set eyes as Hando, the creepy but charismatic leader of a racist gang who declares war on the Asian immigrants pouring into Melbourne. His rage erupts in violent attacks on the local Vietnamese community, but when his victims fight back his gang breaks up, and Hando flees the city with his best buddy Davey (Daniel Pollock) and redheaded hellion Gabe (Jacqueline McKenzie), a rich-girl runaway who turns the dynamic duo into a splintered love triangle. Writer-director Geoffrey Wright's matter-of-fact treatment of this subculture eschews social commentary for visceral immediacy.  Violent, Dark, Brilliant ! June 11, 2007
I'm giving this film five stars because it simply is superb from the beginning to the end with a good story despite what some people might say. I don't think the director really wanted the audience to relate to a bunch of racist skinheads so why people complain about that I do not know, I think he just wanted the audience to sit back and enjoy a low budget masterpiece. The acting is very good and the music is top notch ( even though I'm not racist I just thought it went very well with the film) I do feel this film is as good as American History X and if you are not sure about buying Romper Stomper well I shall solve your dilema by saying buy it! you will be pleasantly surprised I assure you with enough thrills to keep you happy.

Romper Stomper is a film that offers no remorse,there are no protagonists here,that may seem hard to believe but when all the dust has cleared,it is clear that racism leads to racism and then the circle is complete.Its a film that seldom offers a moral or anything like that,its a film that is often compared to american history x which is also a special movie but the latter movie has a message and more style than this,this is a raw movie that is set in a blue collared side of melbourne in Australia ,and from that is a gang of neo nazi skinheads.The gang are savages who target a group of chinese folk in the area and the result is shattering.Some say this film is a bloodbath,it isnt really,but the violence is a true depiction of hatred and no stone is left uncovered in portraying this.Love is also featured in this movie but its born of hatred so its hard to feel anything for those involved,its a film that unsettles some as there is no hope,no joy,no beauty in it,but watch this and believe what you want to believe,this is gritty stuff.

Having heard rave reviews of this film i was looking forward to seeing it. However, i fell that it doesn't live up to any expectations, maybe because early in the day I had watched American History X, but anyway, the acting is average; the storyline is terrible, with no effort to build up any sympathy towards any of the characters, on either side. this leaves you with a feeling of neutraility in the end, and it just feels like so much more could have been made from this idea. And yes there is gratuitous violence and gore throughout, though it doesn't really aid the storyline in any real way. So why have I given this film 2 stars, and not 1, i simply feel that anyone who is interested in this genre should watch the movie, just don't expect much from it.

I had heard good reviews of this film from friends so was looking forward to watching it but was left a little disappointed. I expected violence so was not suprised to see the first splatter of blood in the first few minutes.Had I watched this film on its release date I'm sure I would have been more impressed but with more recent and better films of this type being released over the last few years (American History X for one) the shock value for this level of violence has worn off. None of the characters are at all appealing or make an attempt to allow the viewer to have an sympathy for them. Despite this Crowe is excellent as you would expect and the film is certainly worth a watch.

I stayed up to watch this movie one night, and simply couldn't keep my eyes open. I don't know whether it was because I was tired, or if it was because the film was boring...I guess it was a bit of both.
It's a total bloodbath from begining to end. I'm not dissing that because I like violence in movies, however not when it's gratuitus. This was...very. I found the characters dull and lifeless, having no sympathy for any of them and not giving a lying toss whether they died or lived or got called naughty names. So why 2 stars? Because it was a good try, and could have been a good film. Sadly, the only people who give this 5 stars fancy Russel crowe.
