Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Few television dramas of recent years have managed to combine quality and popularity as successfully as Bad Girls. Series two of the women's-prison drama offers essentially more of the same, but the formula is so well honed that it would be churlish to complain. The main characters and storylines are still there, with the relationship that began between Nikki and Helen (Mandana Jones and Simone Lahbib) at the end of the first series brought eloquently and stylishly to centre stage--a result of both superb writing and performance. The show is given fresh impetus by the constant introduction of new characters. The resulting plot lines see the growing influence of the superb Yyvonne, the unhinged prison officer Di and a new wing governor Karen Betts added to the equation, all with explosive results. The mixture of humour and drama is, as ever, played to perfection.

On the DVD: Having set an impressive standard with the DVD release of series one, Bad Girls continues to lead the field for television drama releases. Again the packaging of the four-disc set is handy but extremely stylish and comes with a whole series of extras. The documentary this time follows the cast on a promotional trip to South Africa and there are two galleries of photographs, deleted scenes, production and cast notes and a mass of outtakes that beg the question how they ever actually managed to make one programme, let alone the 13 included here, without the whole cast convulsing with laughter. --Phil Udell

5 out of 5 stars The Second Series of a Successful Prison Drama   February 12, 2007
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

The second series of Bad Girls is in my opinion more eventful and better than the first. The series in general is really great and is really interesting from start to finish.

This series really introduces the relationship between Helen Stewart and Nikki Wade and Fenner finally faces the consequences for cheating on his wife. AND we see a lot more of the best Bad Girls character Yvonne Atkins, who didn't appear to the end of the first series, so we didn't see much of her, though she was one of the main characters in the last episode.

This series introduces some new characters such as Karen Betts, who soon takes over as Wing Govoner, Di Barker, another officer who joins G-Wing, then there's new prisoners such as Shaz Wiley (doesn't appear to near the end) and Barbara Hunt, a second Christian, who unlike Crystal isn't an "In Your Face" character.

This series is also intersting as it reveals a bit about Shell Dockley's past and this is where you can't help feeling sorry for her, despite how nasty she is, though you understand why she's like that. Yvonne Atkins comes up with a scheme called "Babes Behind Bars", also involved is Denni, the two Julies and Barbara (who creates the website). This is where they discreetly flirt-chat under the screw's noses.

[...]One last great thing about this series is that this is when Yvonne begins to take over G-Wing, though Shell is still top dog, yet no one can be bothered with her any more.

Then there's Atkins and Fenner getting on. I missed most of this series on TV and I've always known Atkins and Fenner to be enemies, and I was glad when I got this series on DVD, as this reveals why them two became enemies in the first place. I was surprised when the two got on, considering how much they hate each other later on.

The second series is fantastic and musn't be missed. If you watched and enjoyed the first series, then you'll be crazy to not enjoy series 2. I strongly recommend that you get this.

5 out of 5 stars More shannanigans from H.M.P Larkhall   August 10, 2006

Following hot on the heels of series one, Bad Girls delivers all-new storylines, and re-visitis some old ones. This is the series in which inmate Nikki Wade and Wing Governor Helen Stewart's passionate, heart warming relationship flourishes, leading up to the last episode of the series, when the couple finally give into their feelings for eachother. Mandana Jones and Simone Lahbib give outstanding performances. Their are also more hilarious hi-jinks from the two Julies, including a call girl service, "Babes behind bars", with some of the girls assuming roles such as "Whiplash Wanda", among other truely hilarious moments from other characters like Bodybag Hollamby. The sexual relationship between Jim Fenner and Shell Dockley goes from bad to worse, and we say a heart wrenching farwell to Zandra Plackett, who is diagnosed with a serious illness......

4 out of 5 stars Bad Girls - seconds!!   April 11, 2005

Another helping of Larkhalls G - Wing brings a superb blend of drama, suspense and comedy to keep ANYONE who watches it glued to the screen!
Old favourites including Shell and Denny are back along with a brand new set of characters; one being Di Barker - a very very good character with a great storyline. Another being Karen Betts - a hilarious prison officer to join Di who again won't fail to disappoint with drama value.
But the real heart of this series rests in the hands of Helen Stewart and Nikki Wade as their relationship develops through the trials of the prison. These two characters alone could hold the series high above other TV drama's as the acting and writing is absolutely brilliant throughout.
Another highlight is the final episode of the series - but you'll have to wait until you watch it to see Bodybag at her best!!
With Amazon's massive percent saving this a fantastic buy for your money, but I would reccommend that you have watched series 1 first as you won't understand all of the stories that are going on. But get this anyway it really is very very good.

4 out of 5 stars BACK and better than ever   July 31, 2004

If Series 1 got you hooked, Series 2 will keep you hooked! In this series, situations intensify to a greater level with more deaths, more mayhem and more characters. As the series opens, Jim Fenner is Acting G Wing Governor and is resolute that things will go his way and he'll be made permanent Wing Governor. However, he has two enemies out to get him, Stewart and Dockley. Helen returns from her leave as Wing Governor and sends Fenner back to uniform. Dockley starts calling Mrs. Fenner and successfully convinces her that Fenner is being unfaithful. Fenner isn't having it and is determined not to let Dockley or Stewart ruin him. His solution is to beat up Dockley and snub Helen. Prison Governor Stubberfield refuses to support Helen when she starts disciplinary proceedings against Fenner and so Helen resigns! New Senior Officer Karen Betts is fast-tracked to Wing Governor in her place. New characters are introduced including Di Barker, a rather chirpy prison officer, as well as Shaz Whiley, a friend for Denny and also Atkins' arch-nemesis turns up to get even with her. As things turn out, Atkins gets her way. As usual there are many twists and turns. There's the usual comic moments with the 2 Julies, Shaz and Denny, but also sadder moments when Zandra dies from cancer, leaving her baby Robbie and personal officer Dominic behind, a man she grows to love. An exciting series, leaving you wanting more, especially in the last episode when Dockley gets even with Fenner, and to make matters worse for Fenner, Stewart makes a triumphant return as Head of the Lifers'Unit, working for the Home Office, leaving her untouchable by Stubberfield and Fenner!
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
