5 out of 5 stars Black Beauty Gallops Back   February 12, 2006
This DVD is rated as PG which is well founded as the fourth episode is scary and will give children nightmares if watched before bedtime. This is not the film but a series based very losely on the classic book.
If you have seen ther first DVD or it on TV Black Beauty is owned by a loving family and has many adventres.
The pilot does show Black Beauty beaing abused but as you can tell Black Beauty is saved and finds a home and loving owners
Six episodes on one disc is a good amount and this series is the better than the book with a girl owning Black Beauty and not some stuck squire's son like in the book.

5 out of 5 stars They don't make 'em like this anymore!   November 29, 2005

What a real pleasure it was to watch these episodes again. It has been some thirty odd years since I first saw these. Series Two of Black Beauty featured much stronger story lines and most people will remember the terrifying "Out of the Night" episode with the skull faced ghostly monk.

Black Beauty was classic Sunday teatime television and has an innocence and charm that is lacking in todays television programs.

Buy this now and wallow in over two hours of pure nostalgia and not forgotting that theme tune!

Hopefully both series will see a DVD release in their entirety but for now, these "Best Of" compilations will do very nicely.

I had forgotten how good The Adventures of Black Beauty was. Series two was definately better than series one. Beauty gets more involved and plays the hero, chasing bad guys and rushing off to fetch help or rescue people, stirrups and reins flapping. Great entertainment.

If you were a little girl in the 1970's, then like me you will be delighted to find that this little piece of TV history is now available to buy. It has brought back the comforting nostalgia of the sunday afternoon drama series, which I am delighted to say my young son has become equally hooked on. From the opening music credits, the remarkably compact episodes always told an entertaining story, although one or two seem more scary now than they did as a child. Lots of recognisable faces..see if you can spot Cassandra from 'Fools and Horses'!

5 out of 5 stars The best children's series ever made   June 8, 2001

Both series of Black Beauty were as high quality as children's TV ever got, but Series 2 is probably just the best of the two series. Beautifully filmed, superbly scripted, with an ideal cast and gorgeous locations, this is a must-buy. Includes the episode: 'Out of the Night' which has all the creepy atmosphere of a Hammer Horror (not at all unusual for this series) and quite a few scary jolts.
