Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
The writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers (Father of the Bride) made this sweet satire about a high-powered yuppie executive (Diane Keaton) who unexpectedly becomes a mom and finds she can't successfully integrate the role into her busy life. Typical of the Shyer-Meyers films prior to Myers taking the director's reins on the wonderful Parent Trap, Baby Boom is a little wooden and more sentimental than genuine. But there are entertaining moments, for sure, and Keaton is a delight. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars Lovely lightweight entertainment   October 14, 2008
I have always liked this film, I cannot really say why. Probably because it's the ultimate feel good film with a happy ending. Just the right thing to watch when you want to be cheered up without having to think too much.
It's funny, maybe a bit cheesy and predictable in places but I know, I will watch it again and again. Luckily the eighties outfits are not too over the top, for me this film still watchable nowadays.
I have to agree with a previous review though, the dvd is really cheaply done, it looks as if it was made in the eighties as well!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful heartwarming film!   August 14, 2008
This film is one of my favourites. For many reasons but the superb performance from Diane Keaton and the gorgeous little Elizabeth are the two main ones. This film just warms your heart so much, you can't help but have a smile on your face the whole way through. I agree it's much more of a girlie film and may be considered a bit sickly sweet but some but I enjoy every moment, I can watch it again and again. Plus JC's 80s powersuits rock!

4 out of 5 stars Well Worth a Look   September 29, 2005

I adore this movie, not only is it a Diane Keaton movie, which guarantees a leading actress with flare, charisma and talent, but there is also the endearing Elizabeth, the baby who ends up on Keaton's doorstep. This movie is worth seeing just for the scene where Elizabeth gets a cold and Keaton has to take a valium just to take the baby's temperature!
This movie shows that women can have it all, not just one choice or the other, even if it means changing house, state and men to get it.
This film is well worth seeing just for the final scene, it always makes me cry, Elizabeth turns to Keaton and says her first word, "Mama", it gets me every time....

2 out of 5 stars Average but dated film on a miserable DVD   August 21, 2002

I always used to like this film even though I'm a man! Having purchased this recently on DVD however, I have to say everything about it now is terribly dated and somehow too sentimental for my liking. I know its a comedy but it would have helped if the whole scenario had been a little more believable.

Keaton is still great though and its also good to see James Spader playing a young business up-start.

The DVD from MGM however is very poor. Apart from the complete lack of special features (just a trailer) the picture is worse than an old VHS tape whilst the sounds hardly any better. Where did they get this print from? It looks like its been left out in the sun too long!

Poor disc. Average movie.
