Amazon.co.uk Review
Hit American sitcom Will and Grace is as perky as Friends and as wittily urbane as Frasier. The premise concerns Will (Eric McCormack), a mildly uptight lawyer who agrees to let his best friend, interior designer Grace (Debra Messing), to become his flatmate. Their relationship has all the hallmarks of lovers--emotional dependency, little things that get on each others' nerves, strong mutual interests and volcanic arguments. The only snag is that while Grace is straight, Will is gay.

Though not shy of poking sharp fun at that situation, Will and Grace is among sitcom's most potent and sophisticated antidotes to homophobia. Though initially a little too pleased with its own camp pertness, the show grows and grows on you with successive episodes, finally becoming indispensable. It also benefits from secondary characters Jack (Sean P Hayes) and Karen (Megan Mullally), also gay and straight respectively, both outrageously and hilariously irresponsible characters: he a free-spirit and freeloader, she's "working" as Grace's assistant, even though she doesn't need the money, having married it.

Despite its diamond and rapid-fire punch-lines, Will and Grace conveys enough sense of the main characters' lovelorn predicament to prevent it from becoming too cute.--David Stubbs

5 out of 5 stars "Insert laugh here!"   June 13, 2002

This is fantastic comendy! The script is amazingly funny and perfectly delievered by the cast. Karen is brilliantly care-free (or should that be care-less?!) in her role as Grace's assistant. And on top of the subtle (though not always) humour in the script we get a very good phsyical comedy too - especially from Debra Messing (Grace) who does have an air of Lucille Ball about her.
All in all this series can't fail to have you laughing out loud and loving it. The only prblem I have is that we have only just got season one, while in america they're up to season five!

5 out of 5 stars Say goodnight Gracie . . .   June 7, 2002

Wow!! I have been in love with 'Will and Grace' since I saw Season 1 on Channel 4 last Autumn and I have been waiting for these videos for months . . . well worth the wait! This box set takes you back to the very beginning, Grace's failed engagement, Will's afair, Karen's marridge crisis and not forgetting 'Just Jack', (how could you ever forget!!) Every moment is a gem, jam-packed with puns, the acting's great, the theme music V. catchy and Jack and Karen . . . hilarious!! A great mixture of quick witted 'Friends', 'Suddenly Susan', 'Spin City', 'Cheers' - style American humour with the usual portion of sentimental stuff, but the perfect mix. Buy it, watch it, sit back and prepare to laugh big time. 'And, ooh, those shoes with that skirt honey? No!!'
