5 out of 5 stars It's hard work, but totally worth it   October 19, 2008
I've tried lots of workout DVDs, but this one is brilliant, the celebrity actually breaks into a sweat! It's a high impact cardio workout, and it really is hard work. I wouldn't consider myself as unfit, but I haven't managed to finish the DVD yet, it's a challenge!

The best part of the DVD is that it seems to work parts of your body that you don't expect. The last time I did the DVD I concentrated on the warm up and the 40 minute cardio, but the next day it was my lower stomach which was aching (and felt like a rock!). The cardio is so intense and concentrated me so much, that my core got a workout and my abs were all the better for it!

I would definitely encourage you to buy this DVD. Some people have said it's a challenge, but surely that's what we all want!! You don't have to be able to do it all at first, you can build to that...you'll actually feel like you've achieved something.

5 out of 5 stars My first Nell dvd.   August 14, 2008
Nell McAndrew's Peak Energy [2002]

This was my first Nell workout dvd. I absolutely love it. I usually put this dvd on when I want a full workout when I can't get to the gym. People usually complain about the movements in the cardio being boring but for me who is pushed for space its perfect because you don't have to move off the spot. I think you need to alternate this dvd with others because it does get tedious doing the same workout all the time. But that works for all exercise dvds I suppose.

This isn't a dvd for beginners because it is far too demanding and that would just be no good for motivation. Also the instructor doesn't really explain things well so beginners could hurt themselves if they do the exercise wrong. However its a fast paced high energy cardio workout with weights and toning at the end.

For those who are challenged for time it is over 60 minutes which can be a problem. But all said I still love this dvd because I know I've had a good workout and a good time after its done.

5 out of 5 stars It works   February 12, 2008

I bought this on VHS video three years ago, and got as far as the warm up and thought, bloody hell, I can't do this!! I was 40, and very unfit. So I went back out and bought a couple of easier cardio/fat burning videos (Jenni Rivett, which I also review on Amazon.) Three years later - and a lot fitter after stopping smoking, taking up jogging and regular exercising - (although I still could do with losing some weight after Christmas) I decided to dust this off and give it another go. I was pleasantly surprised to find I can now just about keep up with the whole program. I have to jog on the spot sometimes rather than do the star jumps and off the floor footwork in the video, but I can more or less do the whole 40 minute routine. Two weeks after starting this and combining it with other DVD's and sensible eating I have lost half a stone, and 3 inches off my waist! It gets less difficult every time I do it and I just ignore the comments and whistling from Army Man. (Why does he keep shouting 'easy' and 'breather'? It isn't easy, and you rarely get a real breather!) Yes, it is hard, and probably boring, but it works. You will work up a real sweat, but afterward you feel incredibly virtuous and when you can actually see results daily it is SO worth it. I combine this video with Callanetics which is worth buying for the stretches alone.

5 out of 5 stars High energy   January 31, 2008

A high energy workout which really pushes you and works up a sweat, Best for people who can cope with a bit more strenuous exercise than most videos. I have to say though the best thing about this DVD though is that you can do it in a very small space as there isn't mush running about or stepping from side to side. Recomended.

4 out of 5 stars HOLD! HOLD! HOLD!   January 31, 2008

This is a pretty good workout. The cardio section is brilliant, and it can be modified to suit your level of fitness i.e. marching on the spot whilst doing the arm actions. From start to finish (including the upper body and floor work), it's a long session, but who says you have to do everything! I usually do the cardio section, then alternate the upper body and bums/tums/thighs sections on different days.

I've got 2 more of Nell's dvd's, so I'm used to Liam (the instructor), and his sargeant major style. I must say that he seems a lot more cheerful in the other dvd's, and even has a bit of a laugh. He's a deadly serious man in this dvd though, and he really does bark HOLD! a little too often for my liking.

I prefer the music on Nell's other workouts, but saying that, this music is lively to exercise to, just a different style.

As with Nell's other workout's, the moves are very easy to follow. Not recommended if you live in an apartment with a creaky floor though!

Ok, you could go jogging for 40 minutes instead of doing the cardio section, but if like me, your not a fan of jogging, or just want to break up your routine with something different, I reckon that this workout is really effective.

If your looking for great cardio and strength work, this should do the trick. It is high intensity, but you can simplify some of the moves if you wish. If you're after something a bit less intense, I'd recommend Nell's Maximum Impact.
