After watching this series on BBC I couldnt wait to see it again, its a brilliant mixture of comedy and drama. The characters are superbly played and well developed over time, so you really get to 'know' them. Cant wait to get series 2 [being delivered in a couple of weeks!!]

Thoroughly enjoyable series which takes you back to the good old days of the 1950's. Michael French and James Bolam are excellent as the father and son GP's with conflicting views on modern medicine and the NHS. Highly amusing and entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful drama   July 4, 2003

This series is brilliant. Set in a village in the mid 50's. James Bolam and Michael French are father and son doctors. With Clive Swift the vicar, Donald Gee the shopkeeper and Maggie Steed as the publican. The show is fast paced at times and always entertaining. It's a good old fashioned show without the violence, sex or bad language. You will laugh and sometimes cry with the characters. There a six episodes in this series and every one a gem. It is brilliantly written and the cast chosen are perfect. The Gilder children are right in there with the adults getting into mischief. Naomil Radcliffe is excellent as Jean Bradshaw the station master's daughter. This collection is a must for all you lovers of decent entertainment and good old fashioned english drama/comedy. It's a collection you will watch time and time again. I can't wait for the second series to come out on video.
