3 out of 5 stars Run Wild Run Free   September 12, 2006

One year after the blockbuster Oliver, Mark Lester is given this role as a boy who is mute or has lost the ability to speak since birth. Distanced from his parents (a mother who is unable to love him and a father who has lost patience) the boy befriends a white horse on the moors and follows it everywhere. John Mills encourages the young boy and becomes a fatherly figure showing him the beautiful wild countryside and moors and the animals that live there. Watch out for a young Fiona Fullerton. The film really plods along apart from one or two incidents before it builds to a climax where the horse falls into a bog and they struggle to pull it out, the young boy shocked and upset saves the day by uttering the horses name and shouts for it to get up. Really it was a platform to further Mark Lesters career on the coat-tails of Oliver. Playing a virtually mute child really went to prove his lack of acting skills, and his inability to either remember or put more than 3 or 4 sentences together. As in Oliver he only had a few lines and his singing voice in Oliver was actually a girls dubbed over his own.
