No one else does it like Cirque du Soleil December 23, 2004 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
Cirque du Soleil are the standard by which others are judged. They present truly world class shows across the world using the best performers in the world. Not only are the circus skills of the highest quality but the costumes, make-up, sets, music and technical backup are of exceptional standard.Their shows break the mould of the more traditional circus, although they are still in essence, a cabaret of acts. However there is a definite blurring of the boundaries and the whole show flows as a continuous stream, more like a musical - except instead of a dance troupe they have acrobats or trapeze artists. Although the shows do attempt to tell a story, that takes second place to the sheer spectacle, and so it should. Each show will take you on a fantasy ride of colour, sound and surrealism; so sit back, relax and enjoy exceptionally talented and well rehearsed performers push the human body and its imagination to their limits. Then ask yourself "Why haven't I got a job like that?" - but then again, maybe you have!
Cirque du Soleil - AMAZING! May 18, 2004 16 out of 22 found this review helpful
After seeing this collection of DVD's I so want to see the show and see the REAL thing. I very much enjoyed watching these films yet i would advise people that they are very deep and not what you expect from you average circus. In all it is incredibly dramatic and overpowering in many ways to the audience. Some things are unclear still after watching it 3 or 4 times. This collection is of good variety and much better than the other collection also availible. Dralion is a joy to watch with some amazing acts. Journey of Man is too, entertaining, featuring some amazing acts though insted of being performed in the traditional ring performed in various places around the globe. A Baroque Odysey is also entertaining though more of a documentary that takes you behind the scenes and lets you in on the making of Cirque Du Soleil that takes you back some years. The final one, Varekai is probably the worst of the lot and one that is very hard to understand. Through the misunderstanding of it, it does become boring and hard to bear with. However out out of four this is something one has to cope with. I think it is worth the money and good enough to watch again and again. If you do decide to buy this product you won't be disappointed and i hope you enjoy it. The DVD will play and play because - THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
