so boring! November 16, 2008 I bought this dvd when the aerobic classes ended for the summer in my local gym, thinking it would be more enteraining than using cardio machines to get a work out- i was wrong!! you will break a sweat, if you manage to keep yourself motivated to continue through the repetitive moves for long enough. And the music was awful, i had to mute the tv and use my own cds, which meant i lost out on any instruction, although the moves were not in anyway complex so no real instruction was necesary.
the toning section of the dvd was much better, and i did find it effective for my arms.
I only managed to force myself through this about twice, not exactly value for money.
workout to the Max! November 9, 2008 This has some good cardio work and will definatly tone you up. What I like best about this is that Nell just gives a quick intro and then she is actually doing all the exercises along with you. No boring celeb chat on this dvd. The routine is lead by shouty army style man, who likes to add extra reps when you think its going to be over. Sounds a bit bad, but it does push you and it is good to see that Nell is doing everything, and her amazing body is a good incentive to keep working out. Nell was the model for Lara Croft a few years ago, so you know she must be onto something with these type of exercises. The exercies and cardio are quite rigorous, so I would not recommend this for total beginners, also there are no alternative low impact moves (davinas dvds give good instructions for different levels) . The boxing moves are quite simple, and as they are for cardio, there isnt any discussion of technique. Main points I would say are keep arms soft, don't lock out (fully extend) joints. Also careful on the knees as there are some lunges on this. (I recommend Anne Marie Millards books "kick your way to fitness" and "fusion fitness" if you want to get more into fitness through kickboxing, and useful tips on technique) This dvd is good, but dont just rely on one or you'll get bored.
Shouty instructor but pretty pictures and is challenging to do. August 28, 2008 This is a useful DVD to buy if you have limited space in your living room as everything is "on the spot". Something to say is that if you use weights for the resistance workout start with small ones or you will end up crippled!!! You can always increase the weight later if it starts feeling too easy.
This is a good mid-challenge DVD, it will get you sweaty and feeling worked out, as long as you aren't put off by Mr Shouty the instructor being, well, a bit shouty.
Good but not as challenging as Ultimate Challenge!! April 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this DVD as I love Ultimate Challenge and do it regularly even after 18 months of owning it. I am not quite as keen on Maximum Impact. The music and the annoying, smiley, very pleased with himself man in the background are fairly off putting, but other than that it is still a good workout. It has alot of boxing moves and you can feel your arms and shoulders working, and the lunges and squats are great for the thighs and bum. I missed the high-impact aerobic/running sections that were in Ultimate Challenge, but this keeps a variety to my workouts. I love the shouty instructor and I agree that you can see Nell is super-fit and enjoys working out. Still a very good DVD, far better than the usual 'look how much weight I lost in a month' celeb DVDs. I would buy it again.
Another cracker from Nell and Liam March 24, 2008 This is, in my opinion, the least challenging of all of Nell's workouts. It is not easy by any means - you still work up a great sweat - and the holding squats are killers. But compared to Peak and Ultimate, I find the full workout flies by, (usually cos I am fascinated by the guy behind Nell who is in a little world of his own.)
I found Peak Energy to be great for the upper body - it really works your deltoids and shoulders - and Ultimate Challenge better for your hips and thighs, with lots of emphasis again on wide and narrow holding squats. Both are the closest workouts I have found to going for a run, without stepping outside or getting on the treadmill.
All are no nonsense, 'does what it says on the tin' workouts which are easy to follow, with no complicated dance moves or grapevines.
Do what I did and get all three for a complete body workout!
