 Why not in the UK? October 7, 2008
This, to me, is the funniest and best thing Mike Leigh has ever done, and yet we get no release in the UK, where it was made and first shown.
I have been waiting many years for this, and now I find we can't play it here. The thing stinks

This is a little gem of a play. Forget about the rather grainy picture quality and enjoy the brilliant performances given by a fantastic cast. The picture quality is probably the main reason it is never shown on TV but if you purchase the DVD you won't be disappointed by this Mike Leigh forgotten classic

After purchasing the fantastic ^Abigails Party^ on PAL dvd. (Picture good quality for age of BBC play). I then purchased another Mike Leigh BBC play. It wasn^t available on PAL region 2, so as my dvd player plays both, I just bought the only available format NTSC region 1. WARNING: The picture quality is apsolutely horrendous throughout.! Thus the 1 star, as it^s realy unwatchable, it^s that bad. Why arn^t these British iconic t.v. plays on region 2 dvd, with good picture quality and extras, and supplied by the BBC themselves.?
