Amazon.co.uk Review
Neville's Island is an ITV TV film which plays like The Lord of the Flies meets Three Men in a Boat. Except here there are four men, who, when their boat sinks, find themselves stranded on a small island in the middle of the Lake District's Derwent Water with a sausage and an almost defunct mobile phone. Given that our heroes are middle-aged executives on a weekend training exercise, tempers and personalities soon fray. Starting Martin-Men Behaving Badly-Clunes this is essentially a comedy, though the funniest lines go to Timothy Spall as the mercilessly sarcastic Gordon. Jeff Rawle is Neville, the capable team leader, David Bamber the organised Angus, while Clunes has the plum role as Roy, whose mental instability triggers the sometimes-surreal concluding sequences. In a scene paralleling Scream (1996) the rules of the stranded-on-an-island film genre are established, allowing writer Tim Firth to have fun twisting the cliches. He even feints that the film is about to turn into a slasher pic, or the UK's answer to Deliverance (1972). Neville's Island does get a little out of its depth when it ventures into metaphysical waters, but the performances are perfectly judged and the exceptionally sharp dialogue delivers sustained amusement and intermittent belly laughs.--Gary S Dalkin

Sorry but I didn't enjoy this film. I couldn't get into it at all and thought it was very slow moving. In fact I didn't finish watching it. Great pity as I am a fan of Martin Clunes but he just didn't come over this time.

5 out of 5 stars Magical!   August 27, 2005

I didn't know what to expect from this film as the cast list had my hopes sky high to begin with, and I was concerned it wouldn't live up to it. WRONG!! This film is pure magic from start to finish, with sterling performances and beautiful little touches from a tight, perfectly selected cast. The characters are finely drawn, heartbreakingly real and, although Timothy Spall gets all the best lines, equally important. There is no character, no moment, no speech, not so much as a sideways glance, that is not absolutely necessary and perfectly executed. I would recommend this to anyone with an ounce of sensibility and an appreciation for a fine performance.

5 out of 5 stars brilliant!   May 25, 2004

This is my all time favourite film! - I saw it on the tv and wished i could see it again, only to find it on amazon! - Absolutely delighted, this is the funniest film you'll ever see! - It's exciting because of the survival on the island, martin clunes is brilliant in it, as are the others.

It's amusing how they cope in this ultimate situation, they cant stand each other where they work, let alone being forced to get along, whilst getting on each-others nerves!

There isnt a bad point to this film, for food they do hunt an albatross which is gory! But not in a horendous way, in a comic way!

I recommend this, the price is great and the film even better! -Add this to your dvd collection and you wont regret it!
