4 out of 5 stars Better than some others.   December 22, 2007
This is a better film than some I have seen lately. It can be scary at times but not that bad compared to some that I have seen.
It's not a bad story, the flashbacks start to explain themselves as the film progresses.
If you, like me,like Asia horrors then see this just so you can add it to you back catalogue of Asia horrors.

While wating eagerly for an original horror I had to wait longer for this is not one!. You may as well have had the same actors as the ring(horror at its best(japanese original not american lame version)for the plot was in the same line as was the look of the main charactor.save your money and leave this on the shelf.

4 out of 5 stars Slick and stylish but nothing new   January 15, 2007

As the other reviewers have noted this film does stick to the now familiar conventions of the Asian horror genre, but what marks it out is how beautifully shot it is and the confidence and style it exudes.

The plot seems a fairly simple tale of haunting after the use of a ouiji board however it soon becomes apparent there is more to this tale and offers quite an interesting twist at the end.

What I liked about this film was the slick style, what particularly stuck with me was the image of the body floating in the water very serenely, it was a very beautiful shot that reminded me of Ada's vision of suicide in 'The Piano'.

I don't know that the film was particularly scary, but the story and characters were well thought out and the filming was executed with class. I would recommend this to fans of Asian Horror although if like me you're a bit old hat at this genre now then don't expect great scares.

The very end bothered me slightly, I felt that "they think it's all over but there's more to come" sly look from a market worker seemed a bit contrived and unnecessary. In a way I think that the director should have gone with the sadder ending or at least offered the open ending with a little more subtley. Cut off the last 2 minutes of this film and its a great addition to the genre.

i thought the whole water hair thing would become tainted but it doesnt. it left me dreaming in japanese.

the beginning is lost somewhere i dont know what is actually going on, and it isnt really scary. but its intresting as it develops. and it dedvelops nicely.
