Up there with Some Like It Hot.
Very overlooked and forgotten now, but this is a priceless gem. Daring subject matter for the 40s which is probably why this film seems fresh and undated. Watch this - you will laugh, and cry, and laugh again. They must bring this out to buy on DVD soon.

.Preston Sturges' best film.Town wacko Trudy Kockenlocker(Betty Hutton) goes to an all night party,gets pregnant but can,t remember who the father is.Comic escapades ensue as her sweetheart Norval Jones (Eddie Bracken) tries to do right by her while at the same time keeping quiet and in the good graces of her father played by the wonderful William Demarest.Very controversial subject matter (for the time) is played to the hilt by all concerned. Brian Donlevy has a fun "cameo" as the governor and the checking in scene at the motel is absolutely hilarious. The casting of the eccentric Betty Hutton could have blown up in Sturges' face but she is wonderous.
