5 out of 5 stars wishful thinking   April 6, 2008

I heartily agree with the three previous reviewers, this is a great film of the wonderful scenery in the Yorkshire Dales and watching it brought back many memories of visits there over the last 25 years. I just wish it had been our good fortune to see it in the same glorious sunshine as in this film and it was good to see how it would have looked had we been similarly blessed with such clear blue skies and bright sunny days.

This is one you can watch over and over again if you love Yorkshire as much as I do.

4 out of 5 stars Yorkshire Dales - A Landscape Of Longing   January 10, 2008

I hike the area often & offer my opinion on the DVD. Superbly shot with no filters (maybe an odd polariser) in excellent weather conditions this DVD could be given out by the Dales Tourist Board (if it existed), nothing wrong with the commentary. Covers most of the traditional 'hot spots'. What is there is excellent but I was left feeling a little 'under done'. At 52 minutes it's way too short - I'd have happily paid double for another hour. I'd have liked to have seen more remote areas covered. It could easily be retitled The Dales Villages or The Dales From The Road - everything has been shot from (or within easy access from) the road, if your expecting to see a panoranic view from the top of any of the fells you (like me) will be disappointed. It would have been great to have a 360 from the top of a few of the areas 'tops' (e.g. Great Shunner Fell, Buckden Pike, Baugh Fell, Ingleborough, The Calf, High Seat, Simon's Seat etc) as the landscape does look very different and I'm sure it would inspire people to make the effort to visit these places. For example, Whernside, in this DVD, is shot from the road and looks a solid boring lump, but view it from the top of Ingleborough (or better still Park Fell) and it's a wonderful hill with great views from the summit once you make the effort to get there. All in all a good DVD but a but..................... I want more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars A REAL GEM   June 25, 2007

Like the previous reviewer I was delighted with this DVD. The best of any travel/historical guides I have previously seen. Unobtrusive pleasant music in background when not listening to the excellent, informative commentary by one of the most relaxing voices I have heard in this capacity.

Excellent photography by someone who loves his work and takes pride in unusal shots of the district, as well as the regular tourist attractions.

This DVD left me with a feeling that I know and understand the area much better and a feeling of being uplifted after a well spent hour. The still photo extra feature is quite beautiful.

Well worth the purchase - you certainly will not be sorry!

5 out of 5 stars Simply outstanding!   February 27, 2006

We've purchased many of these type of travel videos/dvds in the past but this one is just superb. Although only 52 minutes long, it's the quality of the photography, not the quantity that makes all the difference.

Just about every square mile of the Yorkshire Dales national park is covered, mostly filmed in the summer but also includes some lovely Autumn and winter snow scenes.

If you like the Dales then this will NOT disappoint!
