1 out of 5 stars Absolut Rubbish   July 5, 2008
The Mighty Boosh is not funny simply because it has to try so hard to be surreal that it is a wonder it does not implode under the strain. Now let me make this clear. My favorite comedies include the office, the IT crowd, Peep Show and of course Monty Python. I veer towards the absurd and stupid in my tastes and have just discovered Garth Marenghi's Dark Place, which is possibly the funniest show in the history of tv comedy as far as I am concerned. The Mighty Boosh is a complete laugh free zone. The closest thing I can compare it with is the Basil Brush show, the one shown in recent years on the BBC. The tone and humour are pretty much the same but with swearing. Mind you, Basil Brush is funnier. It must be because I laughed at it once but have watched the Boosh and not yet even raised a smile. In a word, pathetic. Noel Fielding is funny without the other bloke though.

5 out of 5 stars Wicked!   June 6, 2008
Some people don't get The Mighty Boosh. They say the songs are poor songs and not funny, and that most of the humour is based around pseudo-dadaist non-sequiters.

Woteva! This is WELL funny, much funnier than that b0ll0x Monte Python or The Simpesons, most of the stuff is so randomist you'd swear these blokes were the funniest guys ever1!!!!

Also recommending: FAMILY GUY, THE OFFICE and BILL BAILEY!

If this is supposed to be the hottest contemporary English humor, better stop to produce humor serials and watch Bollywood movies it is at least cheaper. Oh God, where is Benny Hill.

2 out of 5 stars Lazy comedy for the easily pleased   April 5, 2008

We must all take a moment to lament the passing of British comedy, for if this is as good as it gets, the corpse has twitched its last. Barratt was the best thing about the otherwise tedious Nathan Barley and I had high hopes for him, but by teaming up with gurning Noel Fielding, he has created comedy for the pot noodle generation; a show that students and those who like to think of themselves as subversive will lap up in droves, with its "oh so random" nature. For those of us with a wider appreciation of comedy, this kind of dross makes the skin crawl. It's not that it's bad, more lazy. Barratt and Fielding rely on their demographic's whimsy for all things odd and rest on that rather then write anything truly innovative and progressive.

Yes it makes me laugh occasionally, hence the two stars, but at the end of it I'm left feeling slightly empty by the knowledge that many people think this is the best thing since sliced bread when actually it's a faintly amusing gap between more substantial comedies far more deserving of our attention.

5 out of 5 stars Very entertaining   February 14, 2008

There is really nothing to choose from between series 1 and 2, they are both brilliant.

This is one of those shows that doesn't look good if you dip in to it while channel hopping. If you can invest 5 or 10 minutes then you will be hooked by the banter between Howard and Vince. The surreal qualities are reminiscent of "The Goodies" and "Father Ted".

The first series is set in a zoo, while the second series is set in a bedsit\flat.

This is a classic double act at the height of their powers and I hope they don't fall into the "let's only make 2 series because Faulty Towers did"- pomposity. If a comedy is good enough and, like this, doesn't rely heavily on catch phrases and repetition, there is no reason why this duo can't keep 'em coming while they enjoy it as much as we do.

If you like your comedy full of imagery, surrealism and wit, you will love this.
