Amazon.co.uk Review
Writer/director Ol Parker's debut takes its title from "Happy Together" by the Turtles ("Imagine me and you / and you and me") and its inspiration from the romantic comedies of Richard Curtis (Love Actually). There's a twist. Flower shop owner Luce (Lena Headey, The Brothers Grimm) is gay. Newlywed Rachel (a convincingly UK-accented Piper Perabo, Lost and Delirious) is straight. The two meet at Rachel's wedding--Luce designed the floral arrangements--and feel an instant connection. Rachel brushes it off. After all, the charming Heck (Matthew Goode, Match Point) was her best friend long before he became her husband. Shortly after the ceremony, however, she begins to feel as if something is missing. She starts making excuses to see Luce. First it's to thank her for the flowers, then it's to invite her to dinner with Heck and their on-the-make pal Cooper (a hilarious Darren Boyd)...who's crushed when he discovers that Luce prefers women. Rachel, meanwhile, finds married life pleasant enough, but only really feels alive when she's with Luce. It's tricky, because she loves Heck and doesn't want to hurt his feelings, so she and Luce decide to stop seeing each other. But the bond between the two is too powerful for either to resist. What it may lack in originality, Imagine Me & You makes up for in an enchanting soundtrack and sensitive performances from its three likable leads. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

4 out of 5 stars Light-hearted feel good film   August 11, 2008
The story's been done before, the script isn't the best and the main character's english accent isn't either. Compared to other mainstream films it isn't anything special. For an LGBT film it's great. Let's admit it... lesbian films are generally pretty poor so compared to them, this one is excellent! Perfect for a night in with that special someone :o)

5 out of 5 stars Warm, feel good movie   May 27, 2008
A warm, feel good lesbian movie. No violence, drugs, bad language, just a good old fashioned romance albeit between two women. Lena Headey and Piper Perabo are just gorgeous, a pleasure to watch. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Charming and funny lesbian movie minus the politics.   February 24, 2008

I was surprised just how much I liked this film. It is a warm-hearted lesbian romance with good leads and interesting incidental characters, in particular the parents of the soon-to-be lovers, Rachel and Luce. The script is very witty in parts and is indeed reminiscent of Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral. Celia Imrie, as Rachel's frustrated mother, is hilarious as is her hectored husband, Anthony Head.

The other male characters are believable and Rachels's husband Heck is almost too nice to be true - you can imagine why you'd want him as a best friend, whatever your sexuality. I found Piper P a little hard to take as a lesbian but Lena Headey as Luce was very credible and dressed and walked like a true member of the club! (If only!) Really, it's just the type of movie to show your parents before you come out - because it normalises the sexuality of gay women in a quiet, non political way. In fact, it even might endear some of those who are naturally less sympathetic to our happy breed.

It is also unusual to see such interesting interaction between a broad sweep of generations, ranging from Rachel's young sister H to Luce's initially depressed mother. As the parents' lives improve, their respective daughters' romance blossoms in a parallel process. Now, that's an subtle idea for a movie about gay characters and what I'd really like to see is a sequel.....

4 out of 5 stars Sweet, well mannered and happy.   February 19, 2008

This is a very cute film, it is basically a "Love, Actually" type of story where girl meets girl, girl fall for girl, girl tries to forget girl and finally, girl gets girl.

It is refreshing to see the subject treated so sympathetically in a rom-com setting. It could have been done so much worse. OK it isn't deep and it doesn't tax the brain but it engages the emotions quite nicely and it is perfect for a snuggle on the sofa with your best girl, a bottle of wine and a pizza.

Maybe we have seen bits and piecs of it before and the ending sort of reminds me of the end of the first Crocodile Dundee (except with better looking protagonists) but it is sweet.

Oh, and Lena Headey and Piper Perabo are just gorgeous. Shame most of us don't ever get to meet girls like them in real life.

Its a testament to how well this film was made is that I never even thought of it as a Lesbian Movie until I saw Amazons classification or a hollywood movie until I read the reviews here.

Not a world beating moving but the sort of movie I like. Quiet, about people, no special effects, set in my adopted home city and with a good cast that you get so often in British movies. I guess because they don't have to pay ridiculous amounts for the stars.

I guess the best compliment I can give it is that its like a French movie a la Rohmer.
