classic comedy October 7, 2003 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Three great episodes on the one tape. The first being Uninvited guests where we see a string of mishaps lead to a fire on the church hall roof. The second is the desperate drive of corporal jones, in this episode we have a mix up of co-ordinates. Jones and Godfrey are then left to save the platoon from being blown to bits. The last, the king was in his counting house, has the bank blown up and the platoon to sort it out. As usuall full of laughs and jokes.
All you can do with this tape is laugh!!! June 3, 2001 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is definitely one of the most funny videos I've seen in a very long time. The first episode, and perhaps the best, starts with ARP Warden Hodges demanding half of the Town Hall, of course the pompous Mainwering won't give up without a fight. Disaster stricks when Walker manages to set the chimney on fire... They unwittingly climb up on the roof, in a futile attempt to put the fire out. This demonstrates why I enjoy Dad's Army so much, it's adults acting like children where one 'child' has control over most of the others, i.e. Mainwering. They some how start a water fight and get stuck on the roof all because of the constant battle between Hodges and Mainwering. The desperate drive of L.Cpl Jones again shows the childish side of the Home Guard. Whilst on an exercise, Jones and Godfrey suddenly realise they are in the wrong place, unfortunately the rest of the platoon had unknowingly gone to the target of some heavy artillery. This episode focuses on how Jack 'don't panic!' Jones and Private Godfrey rush to save their friends... you'd have to see it to believe it. The King was in his Counting House, although funny, is, in my opinion, the worst on this tape. Mainwering has organised a party for part of the platoon, as you may guess everyone is bored to death, that is until there's an air raid. After finding out the bank had taken a direct hit Mainwering and his platoon rush to save the money. As I mentioned before this was funny but only with little jokes, especially as the main section is about how they count the money before they take it to another bank. I think, if this was replaced with a slightly better episode I would have given it five sters, however it's still worth buying it for the other two!
