1 out of 5 stars Dreadful   February 2, 2007

I wasn't expecting this to be any good, and after studying it at school decided to buy it for a bit of a joke.

This was a hundred times worse than I could have imagined, cringeworthy and veering entirely away from the character of Heathcliff, instead it was something of an egotistical adventure for an ageing Cliff, in which the songs were appalling, weren't catchy and just didn't make sense!

I was paralysed with laughter for the duration of this and for anyone who has any love for Wuthering Heights- avoid it at all costs.

Highlights include the jungle tribe that Heathcliff 'trades' with, and the brooding scenes of Cliff on the moors.

Rubbish.

5 out of 5 stars Cliff as Heathcliffe   September 18, 2005

This is an excellent video from an excellent show, just like the book, not the romanticised version starring Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh.
Cliff deserves credit for sticking with this project and financing it.
The music was fab.

5 out of 5 stars Cliff Richard - The Devil Incarnate   January 5, 2003

I was lucky to be able to see this production on the stage, getting last minute returned tickets, and this video/DVD is a perfect reminder of the excellent show containing the hit singles 'A Misunderstood Man', 'Had to be', 'I do not love you Isabella (The wedding song)' and the stunning 'Be with me always'. No wonder this became Cliff's best selling video ever.

Obviously the limitations of the stage prevent an exact adaptation of the book, Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights', but that is not what the production ever set out to do, it is a study of one of the main characters in the book - Heathcliff, and examines his relationships with the characters who surround him, and yes I have read the book, both before and since.

Cliff Richard had said that his all time ambition was to play Heathcliff, and his dedication to doing a good job in the role shows and I am pleased that he eventually managed to do so, despite the critics and gloom merchants. I recommend this, especially if you saw the original production.

This will definitely be a hit with fans of Cliff.
The atmosphere of the book is certainly captured despite the limitations of the stage.

Heathcliff: the musical is even an improvement on other interpretations of Wuthering Heights.

However, the video seems to avoid any reference to Emily Bronte whatsoever. Since she created the character, a little credit could have been afforded to her.

5 out of 5 stars A brilliant show that you don't want to miss!!!   December 7, 2001

Heathcliff is one of the most brilliant shows that I have ever seen. Cliff Richard has adapted the famous novel 'Wuthering Height' by Emily Bronte to a fantastic musical drama. Cliff Richard has the most beautiful voice that you can imagine. The songs and the dances are just delightful and well done. Nobody could have done a better job as Heathcliff than Cliff himself. A talented cast also compliments him, together they make the novel come to live. This is a video that you definitely can't afford to miss.
