Amazon.co.uk Review
I'm Alan Partridge finds Steve Coogan's media creation back in his native Norwich, having lost his beloved chat show Knowing Me, Knowing You, and now reduced to the pre-Breakfast slot playing old T'Pau and Soft Cell singles to an audience of farmers and all-night bakery workers. He's also lodged at the Linton Travel tavern, whose permanently smiling manageress, bland decor and themed buffets are redolent of what vast tracts of England have become. He's very much at home there. While there's much media satire in Partridge's pitiful pitches of programme ideas to the BBC ("Inner city sumo? Monkey tennis?"), I'm Alan Partridge is more a bleakly hilarious take on Modern Middle English Man, irascible and profoundly bored. Between innumerable moments of high, wild comedy, such as a disastrous video Partridge does for a boating agency and an encounter with his one (insane) fan, the most telling moments of the series come with his efforts to fill his dismally empty days, taking a trouser press to pieces, staring at the astro turf at an owl sanctuary or walking to a service station to buy windscreen cleaning fluid just for something to do. All this proved a little too darkly uncomfortable for mainstream audiences--yet Alan Partridge was probably the finest British comic creation of the 1990s. --David Stubbs

5 out of 5 stars Arm Wrestling With Chas And Dave   July 28, 2008

For anyone who hasn't actually seen this series: it really IS as good as the customer reviews suggest. It's a testament to Steve Coogan's amazing performance that, although Partridge is every bit as loathsome as The Office's David Brent, it's impossible not to like him! Every episode is brilliantly written, with 1, 3 and 5 particularly great. I suppose episode 4 is the weakest, but it's still about fifty times better than other sitcoms. Outstanding.

5 out of 5 stars Its always funny no matter how many times you watch it!   April 27, 2008

This series of Alan Partridge is an absolute hoot. Steve Coogan plays Partridge the hideous and obnoxious has been television presenter to perfection. Partridge is now seperated from his wife and lives at the Linton Travel Tavern. He still works as a presenter but now its on radio Norwich and his show is in the very early hours of the morning. Yet Partridge is convinced he still has something to offer. His belief is commendable but his talent is....well...His own production company is insolvent (the way he dismisses his staff is hilarious) as his promotional video for a local boating company. Its a joy to watch time and time again. Its not just the sheer brilliance of the writing. Its the facial expressions of Partridge along with the excellent cast who support him. I will never tire of Partridge and his hilarious escapades. If you haven't got this yet then acquire it quickly - you will not regret it!

5 out of 5 stars Iannuccian and Baynhamic comedic gold!   April 8, 2008

A work of, well not genius, as that is a word bandied round with ill deserved regularity, but certainly 2 clever brains that undersatnd comedy. Much of the scripts of this series have now sunk into the culture of many of my friends and we find ourselves reciting bits of it when slightly drunk. The character of Alan Partidge was (I always thought) slightly 2 dimentional on his tv series and intially radio series, but when he is fleshed out and dumped in a travel tavern in East Anglia, desperate to gain his former status of tv presenter, it is a joy to watch. Every episode is a gem, peppered with fantastic dialogue ('smell my cheese', 'monkey tennis', 'inner city sumo with Chas and Dave', 'ooooh; lady boys', 'no way, you're a mentalist!' etc); when I have had a rough day and want to laugh out loud, it is either this (and series 2, equally as good) or Father Ted.
A must for fans of BBC comdey (as ITV don't seem to do comedy anymore. Perhaps they can't be bothered!), this is worthy of hanging in a pool of lights!

A crescent of crisps, the sniggering receptionist, 12" plate, monkey tennis, Lynn, and dressing up in a shower curtain. Sir Alan, we salute you!!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!   February 25, 2008
" That was Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, a song in which Joni complains they paved paradise to put up a parking lot! which actually would have alleviated traffic congestion on the outskirts of paradise, soemthing that Joni singulary fails to point out, perhaps because it doesnt quite fit in with her blinkered view....of the world " LOL classic Alan Partridge, there is only 2 series, 2 series you must own !
